Saint Gobain – Operation

Client Requirement: This Client operates several industry plants (manufacture of construction materials) located in Lima and other regions of Peru. The Client regularly requests our assistance in their ordinary and extraordinary operation needs, including environmental matters such as advice during governmental surveillance inspections (e.g., inspections related to management of solid residuals, or inspections related to the Environmental Assessment Report) or the gathering of new permits (e.g., management of hydrocarbons, or the holding of water rights). Manufacture of construction materials is certainly a sensitive business from environmental perspective and our client lie down its international well deserve good reputation, in our advice in order to ensure a rigorous compliance. Our participation: We provide this Client a large range of legal services and our environmental department has identified not only the actions to always fit within the framework of a stringent environmental compliance but also, we are constantly looking for preventive measures to implement. This year we have been very active in the gathering of hydrocarbon and water permits. In the case of the hydrocarbon permits we have dealt with many security measures to get these permits. In Peru, certain hydrocarbons are strictly regulated because they could be used as inputs for illegal drugs production generating environmental and social damages around; and therefore, our advice covered not only the operational perspective, but also the regulations to prevent any criminal or negative environmental consequence. Client benefit: The Client has successfully overcome all surveillance performed by the environmental governmental agencies and as a result of our accurate and timely advice, its environmental rights and titles are in good standing. The implementation of preventive measures (such as the correct management of minerals supply or the gathering of hydrocarbons) has proven to be of great value to the Client.
