Two authorizations were obtained that ensured Iberia’s operation on the Madrid-Lima-Madrid (14 frequencies) for the 2023 season and beyond.
IB only had 10 authorized frequencies in its International Operating Permit (IOP) and wanted to operate:
– from June 11 frequencies,
– from September 13 frequencies,
– from November 14 frequencies.
An operational strategy was designed to obtain in parallel the following permits from the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) which is part of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. The procedures had the following particularities:
1. Flight Permit -FP: For the inclusion of 3 frequencies (Valid for one year).
IB had the IB designation but were not subject to a FP modification process which was in the process of renewal. Obtaining the FP ensured the planned operation as of June 2023.
2. Modification of the International Operating Permit (IOP): 4-year term.
Taking advantage of the fact that the process of renewing the IOP was underway, we initially requested an additional IOP for the increase of the 3 frequencies. Thus, the renewal and modification of the IOP were obtained in a single administrative act.
Also, considering that the modification process took approximately 4 months, once the updated designation (14 frequencies) was received, the request for modification of the IOP was extended to include the increase of these 14 frequencies. Thus, Iberia’s IOP had the 14 frequencies as of July 13, 2023.
It should be noted that since the IOP expired in May 2023, we obtained from the DGAC the automatic extension, so the IOP was in force until the DGAC issued the directorial resolution for the renewal for a period of 4 years and the modification for the increase of 4 frequencies.
