Client Requirement: The Port of Callao is in the middle of the city and keeping a respectful and friendly relationship with the neighbourhood is an essential task for our client. Unfortunately, certain complaints were filed by some neighbours and, considering the large experience of our Environmental Practice Group who has successfully dealt with community relationship matters, our client requested our assistance to review the best way to face those complaints. It is important to remark that this topic (the relationship with the community) is an important component in the Environmental Impact Assessment (“EIA”) of our client, and therefore any uncontrolled trouble with the community could eventually escalate into an EIA problem.
Our participation: Our advice started with the collection of evidence that could be showed to the community, to demonstrate in an easy and clear manner that the client’s operation was not the real cause of their complaints (for example certain level of traffic or certain level of noise), that the client’s operation is under strict and severe compliance of all its commitments incorporated in the EIA and in certain cases even exceeding those commitments. Our advice considered the need to identify the leaders of the community in order to open a candid and frank dialogue, avoiding or reducing the risk of any future misunderstanding.
Client benefit: Our client was able to clear-up all misunderstanding based on our solid experience.
