Professional negligence lawsuit involving death of patient. Olaechea is representing the client—a renowned nephrologist in Peru—in a medical malpractice case initiated after relatives of a deceased patient reported him to the authorities. The client was charged with manslaughter after a patient in his care at the Ricardo Palma Clinic died during treatment and the relatives claim that there were inconsistencies surrounding the patient’s cause of death.
Lack of grounds and favourable expert opinion cleared client: After examination of the medical records and witnesses’ testimonies, we presented the client’s defence proving that there were no grounds for the case. An expert opinion was also issued in favour of our client. The Prosecution Service then requested the charges against the client to be dropped and the case closed due to insufficient evidence of malpractice.
